The physicians of Vitality Plus Urology have years of experience performing the circumcision procedure for adult males. We invite referring physicians to consider us for their patients who require the circumcision procedure.
Why Adult Circumcision?
Men who experience the following conditions, among others, may consider circumcision:
Paraphimosis: a rare condition where the foreskin gets stuck in its retracted position, and it cannot be replaced to its usual position
Phimosis: a condition where the foreskin is constricted and cannot be pulled back over the head of the penis, or glans
Balanoposthitis: a recurring type of infection that causes inflammation of the glans of the penis
Many men also choose circumcision for reasons of appearance, culture, hygiene or to help prevent potential cancers, infections, STDs and HIV.
Details of Adult Circumcision
Prior to surgery a numbing cream is often applied to the penis. This decreases pain when anesthesia is later injected into the surgical site. Note that there are two primary circumcision techniques. The dorsal slit technique involves an incision made in the foreskin near the tip of the glans back toward the base. The sleeve technique involves an incision made in the foreskin around the base of the glans, producing a “sleeve” of skin. In either case, your urologist will control bleeding with pressure or electro-cautery. Incisions will be sutured or sealed with glue, and the area will be bandaged.
Recovery
There will be a period of bed rest immediately following the procedure, but you should be able to go home the same day. This should be followed by a week of light to moderate activity. It is advisable that you try to avoid producing an erection during this time, as it may tear your sutures.
