A. The prostate is part of the male reproductive system. It is a small, walnut-sized gland located below the bladder, located in front of the rectum and surrounding the urethra.

A. Prostatitis turns up in about 8% of all urologist visits in the US.

Q. How is prostatitis treated?
A. The most common treatment for prostatitis is antibiotics. Sometimes doctors prescribe alpha-blockers to help relax the bladder neck and the muscle fibers where your prostate joins your bladder.

Q. What are the symptoms of prostatitis?
A. Symptoms of prostatitis include painful urination or a “burning sensation,” difficulty in urination, frequent night urination, urination urgency, painful ejaculation, groin pain, lower back pain and others.
